The Grain Valley, Missouri community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Aydan Joseph “AJ” Doneyson, who passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the age of 22. His passing has left family, friends, and loved ones in deep sorrow as they remember a remarkable young man whose intelligence, creativity, and kindness touched countless lives.
Born on October 23, 2003, in Kansas City, Missouri, AJ was the beloved son of Shilo Doneyson and the late Rebekah Starr Doneyson. From a young age, he demonstrated a deep curiosity about the world and a strong commitment to learning, excelling academically and participating in gifted education programs throughout his school years.
AJ recently achieved an important milestone by completing his sheet metal apprenticeship, earning the highest test scores in his program. He was preparing to begin a promising career with the Sheet Metal Workers Union—an accomplishment that reflected his dedication, discipline, and determination. Those who knew him saw a bright future ahead, filled with opportunity and success.
Outside of his professional pursuits, AJ embraced life with creativity and passion. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, finding peace and fulfillment in the outdoors. He also had a strong artistic side and was in the process of building his own clothing line, combining his creativity with an entrepreneurial spirit.
More than his achievements, AJ will be remembered for his generous heart and selfless nature. He was always willing to help others—whether family, friends, or neighbors—and brought warmth, encouragement, and positivity into every interaction. His kindness, loyalty, and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
AJ was preceded in death by his mother, Rebekah Starr Doneyson. He is lovingly survived by his father, Shilo Doneyson; his brother, Baylor Doneyson; his maternal grandparents, John and Donna Starr; his paternal grandmother, Charmaine Roderick; along with many extended family members and close friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation celebrating AJ’s life will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley, Missouri.
Though his life was far too short, AJ’s legacy of kindness, determination, and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will remain a source of inspiration, reminding others to live with compassion, purpose, and gratitude.
