According to her parents, Derrick Cooks and Claire Waldeck-Cooks, the family was notified on the morning of August 3, 2026, that Cameron’s body had been discovered. The circumstances surrounding her death have since led to a formal murder investigation.
Cameron was a student at St Stithians Girls’ College, where she was known for her commitment to personal growth and her aspirations for the future. She had been working toward achieving the Gold level of The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment, part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program.
As part of this journey, Cameron had joined a hiking trip in Sabie with two families, viewing it as an opportunity to complete key requirements for the award. What was meant to be a meaningful and challenging experience ended in devastating circumstances.
