There is welcome relief tonight as 19-year-old Emma L. Oppedisano, who had been reported missing in the Rochester, New York area, has been found safe following a large-scale search effort.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Emma was located Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. in a wooded area near the Tryon Park trails in Ellison Park. She was discovered sitting on the ground with a mountain bicyclist who had just alerted deputies after recognizing her from a photo shared by authorities.
Emma had been missing since Monday evening after becoming separated from her father while hiking in the park. Her disappearance prompted an extensive overnight and daytime search involving multiple agencies, including deputies, firefighters, K-9 units, dive teams, drones, aircraft, and specialized rescue crews.
The bicyclist’s quick action played a crucial role in bringing the search to a successful conclusion. Authorities noted that the individual had been shown Emma’s photo shortly before spotting her, highlighting the importance of public awareness and community involvement.
Emma was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries related to overnight exposure to the elements. She has since been reunited with her family.
Officials described a strong sense of relief among search teams and loved ones once confirmation came that she had been found. Authorities also stated there is currently no indication of foul play, though they continue to review the circumstances surrounding how she became separated and remained in the area overnight.
